Many communists spend more time on Twitter hating sects of the working class for holding reactionary views, rather than educating them through a class lense and helping them unlearn years of propaganda which has resulted in these reactionary views.
And also dismantling the systems in place which provide the foundations for reactionary views/politics to flourish. This is essential in building mass support for socialism, and Chairman Mao Zedong wrote best on this:
"We must never separate ourselves from the majority of the people or neglect them by leading only a few progressive contingents in an isolated and rash advance, but must take care to forge close links between the progressive elements and the broad masses."
"As for people who are politically backward, Communists should not slight or despise them, but should befriend them, unite with them, convince them and encourage them to go forward."
Mao also recognised that this was not always possible though

"The attitude of Communists towards any person who has made mistakes in his work should be one of persuasion in order to help him change and start afresh and not one of exclusion, unless he is incorrigible"
He encouraged communists to be practical and far sighted, to teach, as well as learn from, the masses. To subordinate their personal interests to those of the masses and the nation.
China was of course in a very different place during Mao's time of writing, than any country in the west is today. However, Mao's writing in the section "Communists Should Set an Example in the National War" can certainly be learned from today. I highly recommend reading.
