Symbolically, this is an inflection point. Until now the @RoyalNavy has looked to our government & allies to help deliver this project – we are now in the position to offer serious military capability & choice in return.

In practical terms, my Strike Group is now at Very High Readiness, meaning we are at 5 days’ notice to deploy, if required, in response to global events & in defence of British interests.

Meanwhile, my staff are busy planning #CSG21:
first operational deployment of a QE-class carrier.
largest peacetime @RoyalNavy task group in 25 years.
proof of the UK’s commitment to global security.
a visible demonstration of #GlobalBritain.

But initial operating capability is the start. Over the next few years we will increase the scale & sophistication of Carrier Strike, with the benefit of more UK jets, new capabilities and greater experience.

So congratulations to all those involved. This is the culmination of 20 years of effort across government & industry. Truly, a triumph of strategic national ambition.
