Okay so I've owned the Game Gear Micro for about a week now, and I can honestly say:

I love the damn thing. Sure, it's a bit small and would possibly be impossible to play if your eyes aren't great, but it's perfectly fine to play with my gigantic hands, and it's ADORABLE.
But yeah, for me? Perfectly playable. Great size to just throw in your pocket and fire up to play for a couple of minutes when you're bored. Screen is super nice and clear (So weird playing GG games without them being blurry, washed-out messes), sound is impressive for the size.
And it's SO DAMN CUTE. I'm glad Sega didn't cower to common sense and make something more reasonably sized, because I love tiny things and goddamnit, Sega COMMITTED to this. Absolute legends.
Build quality is great; it feels really solid, with nice, expensive, thick feeling plastic. Which was a nice surprise, after seeing the thin, flimsy cardboard box it comes in (That got bent in shipping), I was expecting something super cheap feeling.
Not to say there aren't problems, of course! In short:
- No built-in rechargeable batteries; requires 2 AAAs. Bizarre choice given even $5 tat electronics seem to have rechargable batteries these days!
- Only 4 games per unit (With 4 different types, each with diff games)
- Controls aren't *great*. Buttons are nice and responsive, but the dpad has a tiiiny bit too much travel, and it's easier to move right than it is left. Start button also doesn't make great contact, and being that you have to hold it for the in-game menu, sometimes doesn't take.
- Also takes a little longer than it feels like it should to boot.
- No suspend feature. While it does have save-states (Thank god), if you turn it off and back on again, you have to boot from scratch and reload your save state.
All of which add up to something that feels great but feels juuuust a little bit rough around the edges. Absolutely none of them are deal-breakers for me, however, and it seems like the modding community it making great strides in allowing custom ROMs to be loaded in.
(Although sadly, due to the fact that people don't seem to care too much about this thing, there's only a tiny handful of people working on it between other projects, so there isn't the huge push to get it happening like there was for the NES, SNES and Genesis minis)
Oh yeah and also I should probably add: It's a Japan exclusive (And, again, unlikely to be released outside of Japan because people don't appreciate cute tiny things) so if you wanna play any of the RPGs on the system, everything's in Japanese.
