I have repeatedly commented over the last couple of days that the dawn of the new year has brought with it a fresh variant of the old blood libel. Exemplified by the recent Guardian article it is a response to Israel's stunning vaccination programme. Credit where it is due? (1)
Not a bit of it when it comes to the usual collection of antisemites. Apartheid Israel they shout in their bigoted ignorance.
It's jews only or first.
Israel is deliberately depriving the Palestinians of the vaccine in the knowledge that countless '000s will die as a result (2)
It is all lies.
The roll out is indeed impressively quick and efficient.
Priority is based on medical need.
Over 60s and high risk first.
Regardless of race or religion.
This weekend Netanyahu himself was in Umm Al Fahm to encourage a greater take up rate in Arab areas. (3)
There live on camera he witnessed and congratulated the millionth Israeli to be vaccinated. Was he Jewish? No.
I am 55. I am relatively high in the queue as I have certain risk factors. I have not been reached. Most people of my age will have to wait longer. (4)
Next they turn to the West Bank Ignoring that the Oslo Accords place health care under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority, Israel has a "moral" duty to vaccinate the population. That conveniently ignores the fact that the PA has thus far not sought help nor agreed to it(5)
Specifically the PA has said it is making its own arrangements. Notwithstanding Israel has offered any surplus if required/desired.
The point is even sillier when made in re Gaza, a territory Israel has long withdrawn from and over which Hamas rather than it has control (6)
None of the detractors seem to have the first clue about this part of the world.
None seems to have asked what Israel has to gain.
I live in the narrowest part of Israel.
At some points it is less than 10 miles wide.
From the road near my house I can see the Shomron mountains(7)
I can see villages in the West Bank.
Recently I went to the hospital in Kfar Saba. If you will pardon the pun the town of Qalqilya, albeit the other side of the Green Line, is but a stone's throw away.
People cross into Israel every day for work purposes.
This is a virus! (8)
A virus which does not respect borders or lines on maps.
Even if for purely selfish reasons it is patently obvious to all apart from those blinded by hate that it is in Israel's own interests that those living in the shtachim (territories) are similarly vaccinated. (9)
Be under no illusion. This is not an innocent mistake but a deliberately crafted lie against the one Jewish state. It bears the hallmarks of too many of the conspiracy theories and blood libels against the Jewish people over the centuries not to take its place alongside them. End
