PvP in Destiny is very interesting because it has ALWAYS been extremely close to being amazing, but there's seemingly something ALWAYS anchoring it down.
Just this season, the weapon sandbox feels absolutely amazing, there's actually a lot of options now, BUT you can't go very long without running into Stasis, which hinders one of Destiny's beauties: Movement.
Simply CCing a player in a game is annoying, but when it's done in a game where movement is unique and special like Destiny? It just ruins the whole experience, no matter how good everything else feels.
As players improve, they speed up and get faster, from movement to getting kills, and when one part of the equation is messed up, or slowed down, the entire experience is uprooted.
PvP is an essential part of Destiny, always has been and always will be. It's the life essence of Destiny once the PvE content has been exhausted. No, I don't think it'll ever be removed, but I do think it is largely ignored whenever it feels close to perfection.
THIS is where I think a lot of PvP players complaints come from. PvE consistently gets content every few months, good or bad, along with changes to the sandbox. However, PvP doesn't get that same treatment, which alienates those players much more.
Hell, PvE feels pretty good right now too, there's plenty of big complaints that'll take time to work out, but we've learned to live with it because EVENTUALLY it'll get really good, think TTK or Forsaken levels of good.
But PvP, it hasn't had it's "Golden Days" in a very long time, and even then they don't last very long. PvP complaints are as loud as they are because PvP is very often SUPER close to being there at that amazing peak, but there is always something tearing down the experience.
