Back at work today (1 minute walk to my office in the conservatory), earlier than expected as shortened leave to focus on @councilofdeans urgent priorities. Here they are :
1/ Covid-19 will dominate work in my view at least for the first half of 2021. Our focus is balancing student safety and education experience with a very challenging time in the pandemic. Want to maintain student status with supervision with more simulation.
Students must continue, complete study fully to join #workforce. Placements will be challenging, which is why strengthened simulation is key, best practice in many universities using tech and AI effectively. Important for those shielding too.
2/ EU trade and cooperation agreement will impact on recognition of qualifications and education standards, immigration rules and funding for education and research exchange and cooperation. All areas important for our regulation and global advisory groups.
3/ Devolution and forthcoming elections will keep our public affairs work busy over the next months. A very important area for us as a UK organisation.
4/ Diversity and inclusion, are we doing enough as a sector, must embed diversity in everything we do from workforce to student experience, from research capacity to leadership in academia. Both for students and academics.
5/ Exciting year for @councilofdeans as an organisation. Development of a new strategy, working with a new board of trustees, setting ourselves up as a charity standing on its own while continuing to collaborate across higher education sector.
Busy year ahead. I am hopeful that the strong established partnership with governments, regulators, commissioners, education bodies and unions will continue, enabling us to deliver the best possible year for #healthcare #Universities. #HappyNewYear2021
