WHY YOU SHOULD NOT SPEND ALL YOUR SAVINGS BUYING A TOYOTA CAR OVER OTHER BRANDS [Kenyan Context]
Do you have that one friend who drives a Toyota brand car and believes that other brands cannot tell them anything? I have many of them other than the normal Subaru Boys.

THREAD
In Kenya today 70% of the cars on our roads are Toyota in nature. Yes, Toyota has the biggest market share in Kenya as compared to other brands. But why is this ? Are Toyota cars more favorable and reliable than any other car in the market ? A typical Kenyan will tell you that,
Kama gari sio Toyota, sio gari and they always align themselves to the Toyota brand promise and tag line “ The car in front of you is always a Toyota” This gospel according to Toyota has been preached and Kenyans have accepted it wholeheartedly, Let’s dive in and analyze
And agree to disagree. According to my own observation, many Kenyans don’t own Toyota cars because they understand what the cars offer to them but they buy because a friend /relative has the same. They buy Toyota under influence and stereotypes. But again that doesn’t make
Toyota a bad brand and sorry I am doing this thread while working so you have to pensively wait and keep checking for subsequent threads. So my main point of doing this thread is to awaken and if possible challenge the consumer’s conservativeness about Toyota. We have very many
Other brands from different car manufacturers in the Kenyan market like Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Hyundai and others. Each manufacturer has something that competes with Toyota in every model. In this thread I will take a comparison between owning a Toyota Vs Nissan and
Honda/ Mazda cars. Have you realized that Toyota doesn’t really put so much innovation in subsequent models and has many models of cars available with minimal or no difference at different prices ? Okay let me break it down a little bit, What is the fundamental difference
A toyota Fielder and a toyota axio if not the type of their bodies, some will argue about engine capacity and other small technical aspects, and Axio is 1.15M and Fiedler is 1.3M , What of a Toyota Premio and Toyota Allion? Okay apart from their names, what else? You tell me ,
What about Toyota Rav 4 and Toyota Vanguard? What’s the difference? Add yours but this is the reality, a Toyota Premio will cost you 1.65M not because it is any special but because it is a Premio while a Toyota allion will cost you 1.4M. But is it worth it? If you ask Kenyans ,
They will be quick to tell you that Toyota has a very high resale value than any other car. But does it hold water in this case, I am from the school of thought that believes that whatever constitute a resale value of a car is its conditions as at the time of resale. But does
it mean then that other brands of cars have no resale value ? Actually let me bring to your attention that a typical example is a Toyota Mark X. You can buy a Mark X today in a showroom and you may want to sell it tomorrow, you may be lucky to get even its half the price....
I personally know a friend who wanted to sell a KCY mark X when KCZ was the current number and the best offer he got was 650k. Yes it was legit and new no mechanical problem. He bought it for 1.5M. Yes he sold it. He lost bout 900k in a span of less than 6 months. But why ?
Now let me tell you, put the gospel of “Kama sio Toyota Sio gari “aside manufacturers such as Honda and nissan offer very good and competitively priced cars with maximum value for your money. This is not a paid partnership with any company, it is my own observation. Example
COMPARE ; Honda Fit 1300CC 750k
Nissan note 1200Cc 680k
Toyota Vitz 1000cc. 750k
Mazda Demio 1300cc 630k
Toyota Passo 1000CC 650k
Do you see something worth talking about here ?
Nissan note 1200Cc 680k
Toyota Vitz 1000cc. 750k
Mazda Demio 1300cc 630k
Toyota Passo 1000CC 650k
Do you see something worth talking about here ?
It is worth noting that Toyota cars have comparatively smaller engines or same engines with high prices. Another culprit in this is the TOYOTA RACTIS. I don’t know why Kenyans love Toyota RACTIS , it’s 1300/1500CC. Priced between 850-950k. Now my point is why buy a vitz 1000CC
With very limited space for 750,000 and leave a nissan note 1200cc for 680k? Why not buy demio 1300cc for 630k? What’s is the madness and obsession that is robbing you over 100k just because of its brand name ? And for sure Nissan note is more comfortable than Toyota vitz
Compare a Vanguard and CX5 Mazda or Honda CRV. Vanguard 7 seater goes for 2.7M and 5 seater 2.5-2.45M. But vanguard is very basic and has no comforts and luxury at all, get yourself a Mazda CX-5 or Honda CRV or Subaru Foresta and you will save money and still enjoy a better ride
My point is, stop spending too much on a Toyota car when you can spend a reasonable amount on a car from a different manufacturer that offers more or the same value as Toyota car. Check out other brands such as Mazda, Honda and Nissan. For the resale value, don’t let it blind you
