WELP, I finally saw the baked beans story and I’m pretty weirded out by it.

My grandfather was the person who taught me how to use tools and do most basic mechanical things. He would have never sat his ass in a chair waggling a finger in a patronizing circles to “teach me” how to use a can opener.

This also: I had undiagnosed dyscalculia as a child. I could barely add sums but I could read at a college level by third grade. You cannot begin to imagine how many teachers treated this learning disability as a personality flaw.
