how to do long fasts — a thread
a disclaimer: my longest fast was 5 days or 136 hours
hopefully this thread helps, but take it with a grain of salt. i also believe that eating under 50cals during a fast does not break it
*also do not fast if you are trying to get, or you are pregnant.
MAKE SURE YOU ARE OUT OF A BINGE CYCLE:
trying to fast to end a binge cycle will most likely result in the binge cycle becoming worse. you can high or low restrict before starting a fast, just make sure you are not binging continuously.
BEFORE ENTERING A FAST:
try to stay away from sugar as much as possible and diet drinks as well. this will help reduce cravings from the start. also a little tip is to do it with a friend! this will help keep you motivated.
NOT A PUNISHMENT:
fasting is NOT a punishment for binging/overeating. think of it as something good for your body, there is also a lot of health benefits.
WHEN TO SCHEDULE A FAST:
do it on days/weeks that you know you are not busy/less stressed. if you are overworked and fasting, things will not go well for you (learnt from experience). you should also schedule it in advance which helps a lot!
IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING:
if you feel sick break it immediately. if it’s just hunger, drink something like;
-sparkling water or flavored water
-coffee/tea
-BONE BROTH!! (this helps so so much)
whenever i get too hungry i’ll eat a couple raspberries(1cal each) or a rice cake.
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF:
please don’t forget to take your vitamins i promise you they are NOT going to make you gain especially while you’re fasting. also do the pinch of salt in water to get some electrolytes in.
EXERCISE:
don’t do any hard physical activity because you will pass out. if you are doing anything and feel lightheaded, either break the fast or consume something very small. i recommend going on walks or do some yoga/stretching.

HOW TO BREAK A FAST:
you are going to either plan when you are going to break it, or if you feel sick. you should eat something easy to digest first, so stay away from;
- carbs
- fiber
- too much sugar
