The ON government will try to again, blame the people, but this is all on them. The Ontario government dismantled its public health agency during the years leading to this pandemic.
Weâre in this situation because of Fordâs failed communication strategy during the pandemic, MoHâs failure to invest in the necessary test and trace capacity during summer, and the MoE lack of plan for a safe school restart last fall.
All these happened while case numbers in the community were in the hundreds each day, and led, as predicted, to the rampant spread of the virus through school populations and back to the rest of the community.
The November/December measures, too lax and too late, did not work. We missed the opportunity to immediately implement very strict restrictions in population movement when it was the only option left. The province was again, late.
These actions, instead, made it worse: 5-6 day advance notice of insufficient restrictions maximized spread in ways we are just starting to see. Meanwhile, the focus on vaccines while infection rampaged through the communities sent out the wrong message,
and the population got confused again. It is not clear to most of the population that vaccination alone (especially at this pace) is not going to get us out of this. Theyâll try to blame you, but this is all on them; this government. Every case, every death, ever grieving family.
