At this stage, where do we go? Do we go back to a 4-3-3 with Werner back at LW? Do we go back to a 4-2-3-1 with Kai back as a #10? I’m so conflicted right now because we will never be able to fit our all our best players into one single formation.
4-3-3; I told you the solution wasn’t as simple as playing Werner at ST and Pulisic at LW. Kante has impressed this season but going forward he’s just not the ball-progresser we want. He doesn’t have the physical attributes to drop in as a 3rd CB as well, unlike Rice.
4-2-3-1; We saw it at the start of the season and we saw how the Kante - Kovacic pivot worked. Or should I say didn’t work. Same issue, no ball progression from midfield and it just says a lot when Bruno has more through passes than our entire squad before yesterday’s game.
4-2-3-1; This does allow us to get the best out of Kai Havertz though. I really liked him as a #10 and I believe that’s his natural position. However, does his bad performances as a #8 in a 4-3-3 come down to his skill set or is it just his current form and physical condition?
Werner; Does he have the ability to lead the line like our reactionary fanbase believes so? At least on the wing he still got plenty of chances. In a central position he has to drop so deep to aid our build-up play so much that he doesn’t get into the box at all to convert.
Tammy; Imo the first name I’d put on that team sheet would be Tammy. He is so vital to our attacking play and many people fail to notice that. He does miss quite a fair bit but with experience it should improve. I want to see him start at ST, even if it means Werner at LW.
Gilmour; Another one I would put out in the starting XI if I was the manager. More mobile than Jorginho, defensively he’s decent and he’s one of the solutions if we need a ball-progresser through the middle. As a #6 in a 4-3-3 last season he was class. I’d play him there again.
The players need to show some passion on that field. None of them last night except for CHO and Pulisic wanted it. Same against Arsenal. Mentality in the dressing room is still the same old toxic one. Who on earth is taking initiative and spurring them on in the dressing room?
Lastly, Lampard. I love the man but he really needs to improve. I still believe, there is definitely a good manager in there, but some of his decisions baffle me. He’s not sticking to his own principles of playing players based on merit. The manager should be the most (...)
(...) influential person in the dressing room but it doesn’t look like it. He needs to find solutions, he needs to control the players, and he needs to get their mindsets back on track. We have 11 days until our next game so Morecambe and Fulham would be good chances to do so.
These are my thoughts after that crushing defeat. We are Chelsea FC, we have standards to uphold. I still believe in the project as I have always done, but we need to see improvement on the pitch, fast.
Come on you Blues.
Come on you Blues.
