Killer7 - The Inconprehensibility of Politics.

[THREAD START]
Suda51's magnum opus known as Killer7 has a reputation for the confusing story and seemingly incomprehensible narrative that it holds.

However, laid deep within this story is a lot of subtext and symbolism about the nature of politics, and how powerless we humans truly are.
The premise of Killer7 however is surprisingly simple.

The Killer7 are a group of assassins, led by Harman Smith. A god who takes the form of an old man in a wheel chair.

Together they fight against the terrorist organization known as the Heaven Smile.

Led by Kun Lan.
Kun Lan is also a god. Specifically a reincarnation of a Buddhist demon, that aims to defeat Harman in a somewhat friendly rivalry between the two.

However, their rivalry involves both of them manipulating countries to go to war with each other.

A worldwide chess game.
The core ideas behind Killer7 as a story involve just how powerless normal people truly are.

Due to the game being on rails, the gameplay even supports this due to the lack of free will.

We're all puppets. But to what? And what areas do we truly have free will?
The Killer7 for the most part are controlled almost entirely by Harman. Puppets on strings to the whim of a god.

The Heaven Smile are the same. Kun Lan holds their strings, as well as Japanese politicians who want to go to war with the U.S

There is an outlier however.
Garcien Smith is our most prominent of the Killer7, and as he slowly begins to understand himself as Emir Parkreiner, the more he begins to resist the control of Harman and Kun Lan.

Achieving actualization and understanding just WHO you are, gives you the will to break away.
Killer7 is a story about finding yourself, and how understanding just who you are is more important than trying to comprehend the bigger things in life.

The world of Killer7 is very confusing. But that's the point.
Killer7 is a metaphor for our true world.

Think of how many people you know that try to understand the confusing and depressing area of politics.

There are so many things that we humans try to understand, that are greater tasks than coming to understand ourselves.
Killer7 is a story with so much subtext about our own world, and that's what makes the message stick out even more to me.

You can truly learn something from this game, and the incomprehensible nature of it's story HELPS to hammer the message in.
This game has truly changed my life, and made me try to understand myself more and more.

Because if you try to understand the world before you understand yourself, you'll be left with nothing but confusion.

Thank you for reading. PLEASE play this game.
