Please don't forget that the way Bean Dad abused his daughter is not just any form of child abuse, this kind of abuse is very often used against neurodivergent and disabled kids.
I mean he even said it himself. He knew that she would struggle with this but forced her to do it for 6 hours anyway. I don’t think neurotypical and able-bodied people understand how this kind of thing impacts you psychologically.
When i was 7 my parents were insistent on getting me to learn how to ride a bike but as i struggled with motor skills, it was really impossible. I kept falling off every time and crying and begging them to stop making me do it. I am terrified of riding bikes now at 20 yrs old.
I can name so many more examples. Probably the worst one was with learning to walk heel to toe. I was screamed at in public whenever i walked wrong and i was forced to do it over and over again. This kind of abuse really fucks with you mentally for the rest of ur life.
I still walk “weird” to this day because its something i can’t help, but holy shit it did so much damage to me. I mean it was about 13 years of my life where i was screamed at for walking incorrectly. Just being forced to walk “correctly” nonstop until i just couldn’t anymore.
Like im 20 years old and its difficult for me to look at my feet when i walk because if i do then i’ll get reminded of how i can’t walk “correctly.” I have people walk in front of me so that i know they’re not staring at me and judging the way i walk. It fucks you up
Oh by the way this practice isn’t just used by abusive parents. It’s used professionally and it’s called behavior modification, also known as applied behavioral analysis. It’s like gay conversion therapy but for neurodivergent people. It’s extremely fucked up.
This tweet is getting a lot of attention so if anyone is confused/lacking context, here is the thread that Bean Dad wrote boasting about what he did. Obvious TW for abuse and ableism
