Everyone talks about building billion dollar(valuation) companies.But what does it take to build a million dollar(valuation) company.Lets break it down.
To get million dollar valuation you need around $150,000 ARR.
That is around $10K-12K MRR.
Thats it.
How can we get there?
$10K/month means one of:
10 $1K customers
100 $100 customers
1000 $10 customers
10000 $1 customers
The first two are more towards enterprise products. You will need a proper team etc to deliver and acquire customers. We will talk about that later. Let's talk about the last two.
You need 1000 $10 customers. Where can you find them. If I were to startup now, I will go for this block. And I will target platforms. Freshdesk, Zendesk, Salesforce, Gsuite, Shopify and even Intercom. All of them have more than 100K customers.
So I need to build something which is of value to 1% of one platform. I will iterate fast and quick and go for a product market fit.
Great, I have built a product. How do I market it?
Product Hunt, Show HN and Betalist. Get first 20 customers there and scale.
