Okay so I have some issues with mugs.
Mugs have one core purpose: to get nice, hot beverages into your mouth easily without injury or mess.
It is therefore mind-boggling to me how so many mugs manage to fail at their one job. I present a taxonomy of failures:

It is therefore mind-boggling to me how so many mugs manage to fail at their one job. I present a taxonomy of failures:
1. The handle is too small and/or doesn't have sufficient clearance from the body of the mug.
Holding a mug with only two fingers through a tiny handle is not stable. Moreover, if the tops of my fingers/knuckles are forced to brush against the (hot!) body of the mug, that hurts.

2. The lip of the mug flares out slightly.
Is this supposed to be a decorative flourish or something? It makes it harder to form a seal between my lips and the rim, and so easier to dribble. I would rather not look like a toddler while drinking my hot chocolate, thanks.

3. The base is narrower than the body.
This can make it super easy to tip the mug over, depending on its overall height. Things that hold hot liquids should be designed with stability. Why does this need to be said?
In summary: do better, mugs. I'm very disappointed in you.
