I don’t think people fully realize the power of comments on fics.
I was fully ready to let one of my WIPs fade into obscurity because it takes so much effort and is by far my least popular multichap, but I got one nice and thoughtful comment on it and now I want to finish it.

Basically, if you enjoyed a fic, please let the author know. Even if it’s just screeching, or saying you loved it. Your comment could be the motivation they need to keep going.
And if you don’t have anything nice to say or just want to demand more, then the back button exists.

I get that some people write for themselves, and don’t care about what readers think, but for the majority of writers, the readers are their main source of motivation.
Comments bring me so much joy. In a lot of ways I value them more than kudos or hits. And they’re important. You don’t have to write a novel, or do an in depth analysis of the chapter you just read.
Just know that even the smallest effort can make an author’s day.
