I think 2020 had more disabled Own Voices than any previous year. The creators are predominantly white— kids need to see themselves at the intersections. Here are some I read & liked. I didn’t do a lot of YA. Fill in the gaps & share your favs. (Skip my bk; it has enough love.)
@jkclegacy, @SarahKapit @jscottwrites and other Own Voices by @HarrellRob, @JenMaliaBooks, @SarahAllenBooks
I didn’t miss these YA books. @mariekeyn is doing the work—and it’s amazing!
These are some non-OVs. I’d never heard of Railroad Jack and who doesn’t want a service baboon? Cameron captured me for its upbeat portrayal of a non-verbal autistic Black girl. She narrates and doesn’t know why everyone fusses so much. @KTDidz, @ShelettaIsFunny
