Anyone else really troubled by the fact that in 2018, the ICD-11 included the diagnosis “compulsive sexual behavior”?
Moral entrepreneurs have been trying to make sex addiction a real thing for decades without any evidence.
Other names they tried:

Sex addiction, hypersexual disorder, compulsive masturbation, cybersex addiction, erotomania, hyperphilia, hypersexuality, hypersexual disorder, problematic hypersexuality, sexual compulsivity, sexual dependency, out of control sexual behavior, etc.
Sex addiction has been defined as:

Having sexual urges, thoughts, or behaviors over a 6 month period.

It makes consensual sex, thoughts, and masturbation a mental illness. Because it’s profitable for certain groups and institutions.

To be clear, using sex as an unhealthy coping mechanism/self harm is a real thing. And many mental conditions make it harder to navigate sexuality in a healthy way.

However “sex addiction” (or whatever they call it now ) is harmful and not based on science
I recommend checking out the 1998 landmark paper:

The Myth of Sexual Compulsivity

Be careful reading sources on this issue. There’s a lot of money trying to promote it.

Various groups, institutions, and people have been trying to push the idea that sex work, and any sexual behavior that deviates from a pair bond or marriage is a mental illness, an addiction, and leads to abuse in society.
