One of my 2021 goals is to further build my personal brand. I started spending time on Twitter a few months ago, at ~1600 followers. With 3300+ now, I have learned how important a focused approach is.

The following values have emerged as core to my personal brand:
Abundance
Empowerment
Inclusion
Connection
Everything I do/write when building my brand (on Twitter and elsewhere) should map back to at least one of these values.

Content I post:
Insights from working with early stage founders, VCs, or angels
Areas of interest for @VitalizeVC: future of work, learning, retail, finance
Questions to get feedback on something
Often, what I post is based on something I did/learned that same day.

I strive to make sure everything I post is positive. I like to share messages of encouragement (startups + VC are HARD) and highlight the work of others.

I spend 15 to 30 minutes per day on Twitter. I try to do one original post per day, with the rest of my time spent on reading/learning and engaging on other posts.
*Make sure to engage with others on Twitter who share your values and/or content alignment*

I think of who I follow as community. I like to follow angels, VCs, & founders in future of work, learning, retail, finance. I gravitate to people who are positive, helpful, and share insightful content.

For me to follow someone back, they must have an actual picture and relevant bio that makes is easy to understand who they are. I also look for some posting activity in the past two weeks.

Additional learnings as I build my personal brand on Twitter:
Lists - I am currently in process of building lists that are relevant to my personal brand, mapping to my values + content areas
Data - I look at engagement + follower data to understand what works
What other tips??

I have learned to pay attention to accounts when I like the person + their content. This was the best way for me to develop my own approach. Some of my favorites: @Taylor_Nieman @atShruti @MacConwell @Jai__Malik @OfficialBBrooks @Maren_Bannon @lolitataub @dunkhippo33
Some more favorites - following their accounts helped me better build my own brand: @minal_hasan @myfriendjanine @claire @sorayadarabi @lindsayknight @catmhernandez @jefielding @sarahkunst @jaydimonte @rainakumra @annawbarber @JonREllis @____hka @AshleySLiu @MikePreuss
In summary, focus around relevant content + values is key. I will not be afraid to try and be vulnerable ( @OfficialBBrooks has good posts on this). I think Twitter is the BEST platform for building personal brand, and I look forward to continue learning in 2021.
