I want to thank everyone who has spoken up to condemn the racism displayed in the comments that were made. I also wanted to just say a few things from my own heart.

I hope the writer understands that it isn’t just a “poor choice of words” and that this was more than hurtful. 1/ https://twitter.com/iamlorisue/status/1345784246867259394
All throughout my life, I have struggled with identity and belonging and the concept of “home”. It hurt that whether it was at school or work or on the street I was seen as a foreigner. I realized once I had grown up, that this kind of alienation is because of racism. 2/
The Perpetual Foreigner Stereotype is a hateful harmful type of nativist xenophobia that Asian Americans face day to day. It makes us ALWAYS “the other”. And the comments made over and over again by this writer and so many others are a part of that type of racist rhetoric. 3/
The writer put up an article about countries and their trade tariffs. Then made a comment about Asian food. My community’s small businesses have been hit the hardest during this pandemic and given the least help. There have been example after example of racist things said but..4/
People still keep feeling the need to keep saying them. It isn’t a poor choice of words. We told you what the words shouldn’t be. It isn’t just hurtful. It is hateful and telling an entire people that we will never belong here no matter how much we live/love here. 5/
I’m sick of having to always be saying this or that is racist. I’m tired of saying it as much as some people are probably tired of hearing it. But here we are...once again...having to prove our Americanness. Having to prove again what hurts us is valid...why it is racist. 6/
Everyone is sad when in the movies a kid gets on a bus and nobody lets them sit with them. Apply that feeling here. We are all on the bus. It’s just that simple. Why can people empathize with a movie character but not their own neighbor? Please be thoughtful with your words. /end
