in response to Bean Dad here’s a way to encourage kids to try new things for themselves without being a dick

1. ensure the child’s basic needs are met. you’re not gonna learn if you’re, hungry, tired, or not feeling secure.

2. “we have X and want Y, how do you think (cont.)
we get there?”

3. “if you don’t know, I’ll give you a hint and show you the first step.”

4. continue to let the kid explore, make mistakes WITH YOU THERE and experiment WITH THEM.

5. finish with a quick summary of the steps you took to get from X to Y.

6. Celebrate with them!
tldr; when you’re encouraging your kid to explore and experiment, work with them rather than abandoning them. no one learns well when they don’t have their basic needs met.
