When you consider what this season meant, the historic importance of it to everyone attached to Celtic, it's hard to comprehend just how much we messed up.
Sentiment over logic (1): Lenny takes over after Rodgers walks away and gets us over the line. On this basis, we appoint this guy - a Celtic legend, yes, but essentially sacked by Hibs and Bolton in recent history - to guide us through the final two momentous seasons.
(He's appointed in the shower, and the CEO declares he didn't even bother checking what other applicants there were. He says this out loud. Like, he knows we're hearing this.)
With last season looking shaky, we hit upon form using a 352 formation. This shape has no place for a loanee like Elyounoussi; the other loanee, Forster, is a rock.
The season ends: no agreement with FF; Moi re-signs for a further season.

Sentiment over logic (2): Having signed Moi, we later sign a Celtic-mad defender from Brighton - lovely guy, loves Celtic, but does not fit the style of play required.
He's presumably signed to play alongside Jullien and Ajer in a back 3... which means Elyounoussi plays where?

Sentiment over logic (3): having signed Turnbull and Soro in plenty of time to have them bedded in for the XIAR bid, the manager ignores them *completely*, relying instead on a 35-year old (club legend, yes) to play a ridiculous number of minutes.
The players are given an extra couple of days off for... beating Accies in the opening game of the season?
Why?
Bolingoli uses this time off to go to Spain for a shag, breaking Covid rules, and causing us to fall behind in the league before we even begin dropping points.

Yet another European disaster awaits us. In both the CL and the EL, we are catastrophically bad. Almost record-breakingly bad. Despite this, the manager faces no pressure from the board. Still, we can focus on the league...
Then, we lose to Rangers. No one is really surprised - we've been poor against them since *before* BR left. But in this home game we don't register a shot on target. We lose two goals to Connor fucking Goldson.
Still no pressure. It gets worse. At one stage, we're on 2 wins in 12 games. The board actively slate the fans for thinking this is unacceptable. (The Motherwell manager resigned this week off the back of a similar run. Maybe standards are higher there.)
We finally put a decent run together. Not excellent. Just basic stuff, given the players we have. At Ibrox we play well, but our lack of creativity bites us on the arse. At any rate, these things happen - what shouldn't happen is a must-win game in January. And we've lost it.
So from there, in the middle of a global pandemic, we drive to the airport and fly off to sunny Dubai for drinks at the pool. Meanwhile, there are fans back home who've paid hundreds, thousands - at a time people are struggling - for a seat they can't sit on.
Did no one at the club stop for a moment to consider how bad this looks?
It's genuinely like a sucker punch.
They've approached this historic season with less foresight and professionalism than you'd plan a trip for your groceries.
And now it's almost certainly over.
