The nursing home industry is a billion-dollar industrial complex.

The government is in bed with them, and they want you to put your loved ones there because they get kickbacks for placing us in these places that neglect and abuse us.
The thing is, they don't pay their staff well enough or hire enough staff. The big bosses take all the money for themselves.
In many homes, residents get one shower a week. They can't choose when they go to bed or when they eat meals or what they eat. Some of them are not allowed to fraternize.
If you complain or rebel against the rules you are deemed a troublemaker and they will punish you by leaving you in bed.

You lose all autonomy when you are forced into a home.
Because there are not enough staff members the care may also not be great because they may be in a hurry or may not have enough staff to do something like a transfer, and then drop the person hurting them in the process.
This is literally where we in the US force our loved ones – our elder and disabled relatives.

I understand some people don't have a choice, but some people do. They choose to get rid of their family members.
They like to pretend they are being taken care of better, but in the end, they are just being abused and forgotten

There is a reason why we say we send our relatives to nursing homes to die. Nursing homes cut our lives shorter. That is a fact.
This is why many of us are fighting for LTSS (long-term support services) in the home. This is why we are advocating for safer, home-like living for those who are not safe in their own homes who need a bit higher level of care.
In certain countries, they've created care villages for people with high-level care needs because they recognize living in a home setting is often much more comfortable for people.
We know how to do better. We just gotta choose to do better. We gotta stop letting politicians getting kickbacks from the nursing home industry determine where our families go when they need extra help due to age or disability.

Tomorrow it could be you in a nursing home.
