I still think the best way to understand force the vote/yes votes on Pelosi is through the similarities and differences between house progressives and the tea party. What force the vote people really want is not really the names of the no votes on m4a and who stands with Pelosi
What they want is a populist rupture, a clear cut, satisfying, and open confrontation with the neo-liberal capture of the party. But there is a big difference in what the tea party did, what they hoped to accomplish, and the movement that arose in their wake.
The tea party reps are different than house progressives first because they were willing to "kill the hostage" i.e. their constituents, meaning they didn't actually care what the end results of their attack on the party consensus was as long as it boosted their collective profile
The reason they didn't care was because they were able to build a brand that helped them back home simply by blocking/attacking bills. For progressives, there are constituent issues that they actually care about getting through, and they know they don't have the numbers for yet
More specifically, Pelosi's only real goal is to preserve her own power, not to destroy the progressive wing with the vengeance that Jeffries has expressed. She actually needs the progressives as leverage/foil. "hate you? what would I do without you!?"
So the question is, how can progressives channel this righteous populist rage while continuing to make the right political calculations to build power and their numbers in the house. People want blood, but a M4A vote isn't the only way to give it to them.
It’s a shame that this anger is being channeled away from movement building by dipshits like dore into attacking AOC instead of towards electing even more brazen left populists.
I personally think the squad is a great start, but it’s time for a brand expansion! We need some socialist gun toting ranchers, someone convicted of eco terrorism, a former plo member. If the right can get their versions, so can we. Don’t get mad, get even.
