You guys, @realDonaldTrump suffers from narcissistic personality disorder. This is a disorder in which a person has not developed an inner sense of self and instead gains and seeks validation from others; this validation is the only thing that signals his own existence to him.
The latest news about the president trying to find non existent votes in Georgia makes perfect sense within this framework. The president’s experience of loss feels like an existential crisis; it feels like a kind of death. And humans get desperate in the face of perceived death.
The president will get his due but keep in mind that npd is its own kind of psychic suffering. It’s very difficult for some of us to perceive this but the president is a victim of his own trappings and is already suffering in his own right. He is oppressed by his own distortions.
So even as we rightfully pass judgement, we ought to do so in clarity and truth, and we ought to be aware of the extent to which we *ourselves* reinforce and reward narcissistic tendencies, especially on social media which is its own hall of mirrors and distortions.
We are all responsible for this, not just the president. We have all suffered from & exhibited narcissistic tendencies. We ought to do the hard, reflective work of interrogating those tendencies & developing an inner self anchored in integrity which answers to a higher authority.
...the logical conclusion of which is to hold the president account and also love him.
Love him. This is not mutually exclusive & our failure to realize this is proof itself that we’ve fallen prey to the spirit of narcissism.
