"WAOW THIS IS WHAT CITIES OF THE FUTURE WILL LOOK LIKE!!!"
nope thanks sorry not interested
why don't you show me what villages of the future will look like instead?

Bug "smart city" fantasy: urban arcology monstrosities, clearly on inhuman scale yet strangely some kind of decoupled "autonomous traffic" allows it to always be pedestrian only
Reality: advances in information technology have made cities OBSOLETE

As long as you have a functioning infrastructure grid laid down, there's no reason to keep all the offices in one place. Yes, managers hate it - keeping workers in one place gives them more control - but 2020 has clearly demonstrated even work from home is feasible for many.
So let me show you the village of the future: Luče, Savinja region, Slovenia. First thing you notice is a lot of buildings in sunny locations have those solar panels (not a fan of them being touted as the big gamechanger tbh, also they have a limited lifetime) but there's more -
There's also a small biomass power plant (plenty of wood around), a small hydro plant (suitable to mountainous environment) and batteries to keep energy production and spending in balance. The village that used to be poorly connected to the power grid is now a net power exporter!
Internet coverage? 4G works great on this scale; you don't even need enormous bandwidth of mm-range 5G (which only works on short range) because you don't have crazy population density and I recommend you not to have every single appliance hooked up (another bug fantasy)
Infrastructure in terms of traffic is now also much better than it used to be 100 years ago - and in the biggest cities people already cope with commuting EVERY DAY for the time it would take from such a village to the nearest city when necessary.
So yes when given choice between some sprawling "carbon-neutral! zomg!" megacity that's supported by a system of automatised agriculture and a huge array of power plants, and decentralised living that's self-sustainable on a small scale - I'll go with the latter, thanks.
Of course certain people who consider themselves the supervisors DO NOT like this idea, of technological development allowing for such decentralisation. But it should be noted that cities actually NO LONGER have the advantage over countryside that caused mass urbanisation.
