The same things you say about MJ, you can say about Beyoncé.
Where Beyoncé does have an advantage is post-‘4.’ Her branching into visual art with BEYONCÉ and even more Lemonade really elevated her into a space to even be mentioned with someone who gave the world album sagas like Thriller and Bad.
To escape the grim reaper of Disco by a hair with Off The Wall and then go on to create a once-in-a-lifetime Pop MONSTER like Thriller is one thing. But then to be brave enough to create an album after Thriller & it make its own stadium filling, record breaking history is unreal.
The smartest thing Beyoncé ever did was learn from her teacher & become a full visual artist. Who knows what the fullness of her legacy would’ve been if she stopped with 4. 4 saved Beyoncé. BEYONCÉ made her invincible. Lemonade made her immortal. Then Homecoming and Black Is King
Her RUN of full-length visual albums is her claim to immortality.
In a lot of ways, to compare the two careers is pointless because truth is... one doesn’t happen without the other. However, had it all ended with Michael, it would’ve been a disservice to his legacy. Michael’s legacy is Beyoncé. Those who missed MJ’s reign needed to see Beyoncé.
