Hi @TracyAllardUCP, I see that you excused your trip, in part, because it is a family tradition.
Do you know what is a tradition in my family? There is a farm in my hometown that, every year, on the last weekend in November hosts their Christmas light up. You see, this family
for as long as I can remember (I’m 36) has decorated their farm in Christmas lights and displays for anyone to drive in to see. They even decorate the front windows in the 3 homes on their land for everyone to walk up to.
On their light up night, they bring Santa and Mrs Claus. Santa counts down to the lights going on and then there is a fireworks display. Every child in attendance can tell Santa what they want for Christmas and then they receive and advent calendar.
Everyone there also gets shortbread cookies and hot chocolate. (This is all free).
In 2013, my Mom died suddenly. It was a shock and a huge loss to many, not just the family.
The family who puts on the light display has a evergreen tree that they
Dedicate to family members who have passed.
When Mom passed away, this family offered to put up an ornament in their memorial tree for my Mom. My sister and I spent a good while trying to find the perfect ornament for it. Then we chose what to write on the back.
Since 2013, going to that farm has been about more than seeing the lights like it has been for over 3 decades. It became about “going to see Mom”. My Mom was my best friend in the entire world. I deeply miss her every minute of every day.
And guess what?
This year- we didn’t go.
I didn’t go to the tree and kiss my hand then touch the ornament. I didn’t go up to the ornament and say, “I love you, Mom.”
You should be aware you are on the Emergency Management Cabinet Committee. You should be aware you and your Government asked the rest of us to stop our own family traditions.
Please don’t use “family tradition” as an excuse for your ignorance and arrogance.
We are not all going to say, “Oh, it is family tradition? Oh! Well excuse us, this changes everything.”
You are not the only one with tradition. You are not the only one with family.
