FWIW if it was up to me. 1. Accept and announce that there won't be any in-person teaching this term unless absolutely necessary.
2. Allow medics nurses etc to continue. Other students who need in-person - extend the academic year and agree to meet any costs incurred as a result. All other students - announce now and clearly.
3. Extend the usual taught academic year by around six weeks for everyone. Use the gap to stabilise arrangements for everyone, help students catch up, solve assessment conundrums and run a fair admissions round.
4. Start A/Y 2021/22 around four weeks later than usual. 5. Allow all students in private and uni sectors to cancel rental contracts as of January 1st if they want. Compensate unis. 6. Agree significant capital injection into universities to emergency - close the digital divide.
7. On the fees issue, give all students a goodwill payment of £x similar to the scheme in Ireland. 8. Tidy up the immigration issues. 9. Introduce optional on campus academic and non academic enrichment as wider restrictions and pandemic starts to allow towards Easter.
10. Ask every university and its student body to help out with the vaccination programme. Nothing is more important right now.
