If you're wondering why, the short version is that COVID-19 restrictions have nothing to do with homophobia or sex shaming; we're asking everyone equally to maintain temporary social distance so the pandemic kills as few people as possible before we get back to "normal."
No one is permanently shutting down bathhouses, no one is saying "COVID is God's punishment for homosexuality," and the pandemic is not ignored because it primarily impacts queer people. Everyone is asked to play by the same rules.
And nobody is saying you can't go back to circuit parties (well, nobody who wasn't saying it before the pandemic).
The gay men I see equivocating COVID-19 restrictions with the HIV/AIDS crisis seem to me to be either (a) rationalizing their selfish, potentially deadly behavior, or (b) cosplaying as Larry Kramer.
