I’m working on a blog post on how I use the Commitment inventory and thought I make a little thread #AcademicChatter I came across it when I did this @todoist quiz: https://todoist.com/productivity-methods
This was what I needed and after reading the post explaining the inventory I amended it a little https://todoist.com/productivity-methods/commitment-inventory
Instead of doing it for everything I focused on work - I’m quite good with my work/non-work boundaries but tend to overcommit at work. So first I listed all my work projects - all of them even if they’re fun
I then looked at my work schedule which is officially 7 hours a day 5 days a week - 35 official hours to distribute. I then prioritised my projects and allocated days/half days or hours to them. Keeping the 35hrs in mind - remember to leave some time for admin and surprises
After this allocation I created an ideal weekly schedule and copied the times into my calendar. To allow for other to book appointments with me I had o leave some time free and I also made half the allocated time slots available on the calendar.
Giving some flexibility for others to book meetings/appointments with me. Knowing now how much time I can give each project per week allowed me to be more realistic with deadlines, delivery dates etc and helped me see how busy I am.
This also makes it easier to say No to new things or delay them until a time a lot becomes available...Hopefully this will work and I will post an update in a few months /end
