A thread in the role of staffers in government.

I see the point that political staffers are private citizens. But the role of government staffers has evolved over the years enabled by the internet and the use of social platforms for issues management.

When I was a staffer we were told explicitly to think about what we did in our private lives and if we would want to see it on the front page of a newspaper. I lived by this advice. Wether you mean to or not, you have an influential role in government.

One decision, good or bad, can take you from obscurity to the nightly news. Or now you can trend on Twitter. When you take a role in government, especially when your role is to be a prominent voice online, you can’t expect the public to not hold you to account when you do
