RIP MF DOOM
Daniel Dumile was born in London in 1971, moving to Long Island at a young age. This is where he started his musical career in 1988, as a member of the group KMD- under the stage name Zev Love X.
The group disbanded in 1993 after the death of DJ Subroc, DOOM's brother.

Daniel dissapeared from the music scene for a few years, before emerging in the late 90s at open mic events donning the iconic DOOM mask. It can be seen here as Dumile becoming the 'enemy' of the industry, after bouts of homelessness and struggle- he would do things his way now.
OPERATION DOOMSDAY
DOOM released his debut record in April 1999, producing all but one track himself (the other being produced by DJ Subroc) and is one of his finest records, showcasing his gruff and layered flow with someone stellar production.

DOOM recorded OD in a three week span, using borrowed recording equipment and crashing on @StretchArmy's sofa. Hustle. https://twitter.com/StretchArmy/status/1096951923473821697?s=20
DOOM liked to use a multitude of aliases in his career, and this includes Viktor Vaughn (the real name of comic book villain Dr. Doom). He released Vaudeville Villain under this name in September 2003.

DOOM was getting his plaudits throughout his solo career, but his collaboration with Madlib really put him on the map as one of the finest artists of any genre: Madvillainy.
Releasing in March 2004, this is universally accepted as one of the finest rap albums of all time.

The quality and consistency of DOOM really shows here- in the same year, he release MM..FOOD, in November 2004. Both records stand as two of his finest and shine with differing personality and quality in a way that is almost hard to believe.

DOOM often collaborated with artists to create solid bodies of work, and some of these have really flown under the radar. One of these that stands out to me in particular is The Mouse and The Mask, a collaboration with Danger Mouse released in October 2005.

Whilst frequently collaborating with others, DOOM also continued to release solo work. His next, and final, solo record was titled Born Like This, and was released in March of 2009. This record showed DOOM was as sharp as ever lyrically and ended off a decade that he dominated.

The 2010s were a little quieter for DOOM in terms of releases, but he still dropped a few gems with up and comers. The most notable is the project NEHRUVIANDOOM, with Bishop Nehru releasing in October 2014.

The last project released with DOOM involvement was in March 2018, a collaboration with Czarface titled Czarface Meets Metal Face. DOOM was on top form here with contemporaries 7L, Esoteric and Inspectah Deck to make a truly memorable project.

The 2010s were difficult for DOOM. He had issues gaining entry back to the USA in late 2010 after a tour, causing him to be apart from his family for almost 2 years before they moved to London with him, and he stated at this point he was 'done with America'.
Another tragedy in DOOM's personal life, he announced in 2017 that his 14 year old son had passed away. Some solace i have taken from the past few days is that they are together in power once again.

Sadly, DOOM passed away on October 31st, 2020. The rap scene lost one of its most colorful, inspiring artists who paved the way for all the experimental influence in rap today.
DOOM has been one of my favourites since around 2012 and i will miss him and his artistry deeply.
