10 Practical life lessons from "The Art of War”

“Ancient Chinese military texts”

=A THREAD BY WD=
“The Art of War” is composed of 13 chapters.

Each one is devoted to an aspect of warfare and how it applies to military strategy and tactics.

Written 2500 years ago by Sun Tze (孙子 Sūnzi) a Chinese general, military strategist, writer, and philosopher.
It contains a detailed analysis of the Chinese military, from weapons and strategy to rank and discipline.

This book's significance is that it’s still being used by business gurus and even sports coaches as a guide for dealing with conflicts.
"The Art of war" gives great advice on how to strategically approach a conflict.

These are 10 life lessons from this amazing book:
"He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight."

1. Choose your battles

we have a finite amount of energy and time, so we need to be laser-focused. If we’re all over the place, we’ll never accomplish anything and end up wasting all of that effort.
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.”

2. Know yourself and know your opponent.

No explanations needed!
“The quality of decision is like the well-timed swoop of a falcon which enables it to strike and destroy its victim.”

3. Timing matters

Sun Tzu knew that time was of the essence of warfare.

In real life, too, once a decision is made, it must be executed immediately.
“In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.”

4. Learning from mistakes and chaos

No one has reached a great deal of success without experiencing their fair share of problems.
“Never venture, never win!”

5. No risk no reward!

You have to take risks to create experiences, to be engaged in life, and to expand your world.
"To win 100 battles is not the height of skill; to subdue the enemy without fighting is."

6. The best way to win is not to fight

For any situation, man has more than one tool.

Be resourceful.

Create your own opportunities instead of following normal, established paths.
“He will win who knows how to handle both superior and inferior forces.”

7. Be a good leader

Learn how to lead people, set expectations, and, more importantly, develop skill sets.
"Opportunities multiply as they are seized."

8. The power of momentum

Success is like a snowball; it takes momentum to build, and the more you roll in the right direction, the bigger it gets.
“Ponder and deliberate before you make a move.”

9. Planning

Before making any kind of decision, consider the pros and cons, as well as the consequences that each possible decision could bring forth.
“Attack is the secret of defense; defense is the planning of an attack.”

10. Never stop learning

The competition is growing bigger, and the only way to ensure success is to constantly build up your arsenal of skills.
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt.”
