I want to share one incident today, which happened with me.

One Brahmin uncle who is around 90 years old, was cheated by his relatives in real estate business. My friend told me to meet him.

So I had to meet him. He told me to come near his home. I reached there.
The moment he saw me I think he guessed that I don't belong to his caste.

While we were walking to his home, he first made me to sit in front of his house ( apparently on the steps to the some shop which he had given for rent!)

My friend had told me that he is a devotee of
Ramakrishna Ashram. So I started asking him about the books and his routine. He named very few books which he had read long back. Then I asked him how he was cheated. He narrated the story in 3 minutes. As I was feeling dust in my palms and pants I felt bit awkward & Humiliated.
I got up and said 'I think its time for me to leave, sir' He asked me about my degree.I told him about my alma mater & I started walking. He then said," come I will show you my home".

The moment I entered home,he made me to sit on chair in the hall(near door!)&Called his grandson
His grandson was preparing for NEET-UG. I gave him some tips about preparation. He offered me some biscuits and few roasted ground nuts. I took them. The plate was so small that it could accommodate only Four Marie biscuits!

Then he gave Chapati on the same plate!
He didn't even ask me to wash his hands! ( As Hand wash Basin was inside his house!)

He served me two Chapatis with 2 Tea spoon of the vegetables.

As I finished having it, he brought water from the kitchen and told me to wash my hands outside his house!

I took glass of water
And went outside to wash my hands. He then offered some old cloth to wipe and the moment I wiped off my wet hands he threw it on the floor ( may be because no one else in the home should use it later!)

He didn't even introduce his family members! I was really feeling humiliated
But I couldn't help much. I told him that I have prepared lunch at my place and I have to go now and I left the place.

None in the family except small children greeted me with smile and said 'Hi'. The family members treated me as if I came to their home for robbery!
And he is a crorepati and has factories in Bengaluru!

Imagine a Brahmin crorepati doesn't allow person like me to wash hands inside his home. He couldn't offer good sized plate to eat! He couldn't even offer cleaned towel for wiping!

He followed his 'Shuddhi'(ಮಡಿ) compromising
Man's respect and dignity!

Yet people say Dalit people are having upper hand in the society because of reservation.

Thanks to my education, that helped at least for me to enter his home (hall). Otherwise I would have sent off in few minutes only!

Jai Bheem
