I like this growth from Julius Randle. Had some tough moments vs. Raptors and their double teams. Pacers doubling here and he finds Bullock right away for a 3. That's development. On the flip side for the Pacers that is *not* a good double team.
(player development point for Holiday, it's usually a bad idea to sprint to double someone who is facing up and seeing the floor. also usually bad to double someone who hasn't put the ball on the floor yet. you don't want to do both)
This is not a new action but each night I see more and more teams using it and having success. Low corner P&R with an empty side. Puts a lot of pressure on your big because the screener is one step away from the paint and the guard is in a scoring area.
(you either have to keep it on that side or the strongside has to show stronger help and force a kickout. You see Turner is trying to make sure he sticks with Robinson and doesn't contain the drive)
I'm still a little concerned with the Sabonis/Turner minutes for the Pacers. Last year when the Pacers got to drive and kick it felt like it always ended with a kick to Turner. Here Brogdon drives and the only person open is...Turner. Robinson helps off to stop penetration.
(less to blame Turner and more to point out...yeah that problem still exists)
Brogdon able to beat Payton off the drive and watch how the Knicks defense reacts. Bullock stunts, Randle rotating and Robinson comes in to help. Only thing is Robinson overcommits for the shot block which opens the dump. Flip side he's a shot blocker and contests Turner as well
I do wonder what this Knicks lineup would look like with just one more shooter. As Randle keeps playing well more defenses are going to give him attention. Does a good job of faking the ISO but seeing the floor. Kick to Bullock who misses the 3.
Solid defense here from the Knicks, good movement into the P&R from the Pacers. You see when Sabonis rolls the weakside is in and ready to help. Tough part is Sabonis is so crafty when he catches on the roll, gets to his left hand and finishes.
Pacers go to this low corner P&R with an empty side and get results out of it. Just puts so much pressure on your defense if you're not ready. Payton gives really good help from the nail to stop Oladipo's drive. Only problem is that leaves Brogdon wide open for 3.
Knicks look like a Thibs team in the 1/2 court, it's not always pretty but they end up getting to where they need to. Pacers do a good job defensively on the first P&R. Randle swings to a second, defense has to help on the roll, nice skip to Barrett for 3.
Been impressed by Randle's passing here. Pacers do a better job doubling here, finds a way to skip it to the corner. On the second post up, Pacers do a great job doubling on the spin but Randle finds Barrett open for 3.
