When you, Sabiti of Ankore, honor me Mucunguzi of Tooro, with a visit in my country home, my culture permits me to embellish you with a pet name, say Araali. You can then introduce yourself anywhere in Uganda as a Munyankore called Araali. You will not be adjudged a fraud for it. https://twitter.com/edwin_sabiti/status/1345681385017765888
In the same breath, the embellishment added to Mr. Kyagulanyi’s style viz. Musinguzi is symbolic of acceptance by some in Ankole of him as one of them, a friend and ally. To demonize his “approach” as you do seems to require that welcome to be unanimous through all Ankore.
I think that view is absurd. The Acoli who comes to my home and gets the petname “Abwooli” won’t require the endorsement of the entire Tooro Kingdom to say “My name’s Akot Adong Abwooli.” It matters not if such symbolic camaraderie is exhibited at a political rally or my home.
The symbolic cultural significance of intermarriage needs not be belabored more than it already has been so I will not tackle that aspect. I will however remind you that Kyagulanyi’s children indeliblt owe half their DNA to someone called Itungo.
If you want to say Kyagulanyi is peddling a tribalistic agenda whilst hiding behind the Musinguzi moniker and his marriage to Itungo, that’s a different argument that demands its own premises and evidence. You can’t justify it with the tweet responding to Kainerugaba’s absurdity.
