Being against transactivism and wokeism doesn't entail that we are against the idea that structural racism exists (we know it does) and against the "decolonisation" of academia. Sometimes I feel that GC ppl are driven to wrongly reject all ideas now seen as woke. Anti-imperialism
And anti-racism are not woke, they are decent positions, just as much as are the desire to abolish gender norms and defend women's rights (now deemed anti trans). The way we go about "decolonising" academia and advance racial equality have to be carefully thought through tho'.
At the moment, it seems to be mainly driving us towards historical revisionism or forgetting a shameful past in the hope we make a better future. It is the wrong way to go about it, progress doesn't stem from oblivion. I believe history and philosophy eg. should be decolonised.
STEM, however, should not be decolonised, because the scientific method is not "white" or "imperialist", it is just the method of inquiry that leads to the most predictable and reproducible outcome based on empirical (not social) and measurable data. https://virginiasroom.co.uk/f/about-truth-and-the-pursuit-of-truth
I think opposing all "woke" positions can steer us much too close to the reactionary right for our liking. We must reclaim these progressive ideas by showing that a materialist approach to thinking and solving these issues is the way to go, not trash them because "woke".
