A THREAD: Why you shouldn't feel sorry for Mesut Ozil after he was ostracised from the Arsenal squad
People claim Ozil is a "human rights activist" and that it's the reason why he's not being allowed to play football

He's far from one. This is him having a photo taken with Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
Erdoğan was ranked 8th place in the United Nations' list for the worst human rights abusers in 2020.

That's worse than North Korea's Kim Jong Un
"Indicted jailed human rights activist Osman Kavala on new false charges, sentenced journalist Can Dündar to 27 years in jail on fake terrorism charge, cut off water supply to 460,000 Kurds, ranked first for number of reporters jailed, fueled wars in Syria & Libya." - the UN
Now with the case of Ilkay Gundogan, you may think Ozil's picture with Erdoğan was purely a one-time formality and a mistake

But you'd be wrong. Ozil had Erdoğan as BEST MAN at his wedding
How could a humanitarian be friends with someone who sends child soldiers into war, kills protesters, suppresses political opponents, imprisons whoever he wants for unjust reasons, cuts off peoples' water supply and is ethnically cleansing Kurdistan?

It doesn't add up
You may say Ozil has spoken out about the horrible discrimination of Muslims in China, and yes he should definitely speak out about it, but it doesn't make him a good person when he has ties to a man like Erdoğan

He doesn't just refuse to condemn he, he's befriended him
For footballing reasons, he hasn't exactly been world class recently. Last season he recorded 4 G/As in 23 games, at a pitiful rate of a G/A every 453 minutes
I wish people would stop idolising Ozil and start learning about him. Someone like him shouldn't be anyone's role model, it's a relief that he's being kept away from football
