Folks I need some answers. My wife and I had planned to travel to our daughters house for Christmas. She, and her husband live in a Tier 2 region in the West Midlands with their 2 boys, our only grandchildren. Following the government guidance we booked a sailing from Belfast
to Liverpool on Wednesday 23rd. We booked a cabin on the ferry to eliminate any social interaction. Our plans were to drive from Liverpool to my daughters, stay in the house until we were due to leave again on Monday 28th, sail home, again with a cabin booked and arrive home on
Tuesday morning before returning to work on Wednesday 30th. We are both key workers. My wife works in the NHS and I in public transport. All our plans conformed with government guidelines. On Monday 21st those guidelines changed. We could still travel but we could only visit
our family on Xmas day and we would have to self isolate for 10 days on our return. On Tuesday 22nd we cancelled our plans. Our 2 grandchildren wouldn't receive their Xmas gifts and we had no food in the house for the festive period so we had to reorganise. We even went back to
work early so others could have time off with family. It was annoyingly frustrating but those were the guidelines and we followed them.
On the other hand the MP for East Antrim flew to London on Christmas eve for a vote on the Brexit deal and was seen walking around Portrush
yesterday, 8 days after the vote.

So my questions are these:

Are MPs exempt from government guidelines?

Did the guidelines change again to reduce the self isolation period?

Could/should I have gone ahead with my original travel plans?

If I had would I be open to
prosecution?

A senior Scottish scientific officer had to resign from her post for travelling within Scotland during the first lockdown but Dominic Cummings did not for driving the length of england. Are there different levels of seriousness regarding guidelines and are they
dependant on geographic location?

Will the MP in question be sanctioned by Parliament, the PSNI or indeed his political party?

Do any of our elected representatives have any idea what they are doing during the worst health crisis in the last century?

So far I've had 1 response from an elected representative and they took the time to answer my questions in so much as they could. But theirs was only one opinion, one viewpoint. Retweet this thread if you're as fed up with those on the hill and let's make them accountable
This wee gripe of mine has found some legs. Thank you all for your kind words, encouragement and advice. So far I've had 3 responses that are all affiliated with one NI political party. Silence from the others and we've grown to expect that from our leaders but we shouldn't
accept it. These representatives were voted into office to be our voice in the big political establishments. They are answerable to the proletariat, you and me. We shouldn't have to make do with belligerence or nonconformity. If it's good enough for the electorate then it should
be good enough for the elected too.
The government advisor that I mentioned was Dr Catherine Calderwood and she was Scotland's Chief Medical Officer. She was asked to resign because she broke the lockdown guidelines to visit her holiday home in Fife.
Further update. I've had a response from 2 Sinn Fein members who apologised for not replying sooner but they had taken a break from social media over the holidays which is completely understandable. We all need time out to relax and recharge. They both have been very supportive
and helpful so thank you for that.
