This government has a majority of 80.

Labour will disappoint us.

There will be some truly horrible new immigration rules in the coming months and years.

What can we do about that?

A thread

1) Support those affected. That means showing solidarity with people who face deportation, or have been made homeless, or are being left destitute. Sign petitions. Donate. Volunteer. Protest. Join a union.

2) Resist awful new immigration rules. Tell your friends. Write to your MP. Amplify & share news articles.

The Parliamentary maths means they will get most of what they want. Our job is to hold them to account. Voice our opposition. Kick up a fuss.

3) Relatedly, take care of yourself. Don't burn out. If that means taking a break, do it.

Coming back to twitter after 10 days off feels like putting my head in a blender. I don't want to burn out. Mute. Block. Quit. Talk to people IRL* Do what you need to do.

4) Look to the medium term and start building power now.

Identify the power you aready have and build out from there.

There's a story of 2021 in which horrible rules creating horrible realities for people just get worse and worse.

But there's also a story of 2021 where people who are affected are heard. Where people who care, support. Where people find and build power they never knew they had.
