This was a reasonable position in March, but ten months later we've learnt that there's no balance to be had with COVID-19. It spread rapidly and kills in high volume unless we work to get rid of it. https://twitter.com/EstherMcVey1/status/1345446981062316033
There will be death, but every death is a great misfortune that we should have tried to prevent.
We can't prevent every death, like we can't prevent every case, but our goal should be return, eventually, to zero cases and aero deaths. There is no balance with this disease.
In NSW we're currently in the middle of an outbreak where we're seeing a dozen or fewer new cases a day. It's controlled and manageable, but the goal is to contain and reduce the spread from each cluster to zero.
The balance to be had is in the time it takes to get to zero, but the goal has to be zero. That's the only really manageable ongoing number.
