Looking like a full-on relegation battle for @QPR this season. But are things really as bad as they look, based on the statistics...?
/ After 22 matches @QPR are scoring an average of 0.9 goals per match (18th highest in the @SkyBetChamp). Whilst @QPR have rarely been free-scoring this season, this average has been steadily declining since Game 14
/ @QPR have, on average, conceded 1.4 goals per game (21st lowest in the @SkyBetChamp). The defence has tightened up (very slightly) from a few weeks ago when the average was above 1.5. But this is a grim statistic in the context of the rest of the league #QPR
/ @QPR allow an average of 3.9 shots on target against (SOTA) per match (3rd highest in the @SkyBetChamp). Fortunately they also have the 10th highest save % (saves vs shots on target). This is testament to a much improved GK in the starting XI
/ Fair to suggest that the problematic GK position has been satisfactorily solved in the short-term. For reference, in 19-20 season, the save % figure was 63% (19th highest) #QPR
/ @QPR have had 245 shots this season, of which just 29% have been on target (21st highest in the @SkyBetChamp). Accuracy is problem for our forward players #QPR #EFL
/ Only @OfficialRUFC @BCFC & @NFFC have a lower SOT% than @QPR which should be concerning, given that only one of those teams is currently placed lower than the Rs #QPR #EFL
/ Over the past few weeks I have been producing a (very basic) model, using multiple regression technique, which aims to provide some guidance as to how important these metrics are, given the paucity of statistics which are freely available #QPR
/ The tracking so far suggests a predicted position of 21st for @QPR but of most concern is that this predicted position has been falling over recent weeks, which to be fair you probably don’t need to be statistician to see! #QPR
/ Based on the numbers I’m running, I fully expect @dcfcofficial and @NFFC to start to move away from the drop zone. Both have been terrible underachievers so far, and only a modest uptick in form should see them right #QPR #EFL
/ @OfficialRUFC & @wwfcofficial look poor, but staying up is not insurmountable for them. The chances of them BOTH staying up have to be low however. The big question is how @swfc will fair. All this points to a hard slog for @QPR during the remainder of the season #QPR #EFL
/ It’s fair to say that, right now, @QPR are conceding less goals per match, than was the case in the two previous seasons. However set pieces are penalty concessions are really hurting. It ‘should be’ possible to eliminate these errors with the right training #QPR #EFL
/ But the goals have dried up, and this, more than anything, has to be addressed in the January transfer window, if at all possible, otherwise we could easily fall out of this league come May #QPR #EFL
/ Final point. I’ll be tracking the numbers week by week, and constantly updating the model. Let’s hope we start to see some improvement over the next few games! Come on you Rs! #QPR #EFL
