For example the US love a good “lawless” horror movie because yts fear someone having power to do whatever they want with them without repercussions because they’ve done that to bipoc for centuries. (Example: purge, US etc)
Lack of autonomy scared the west and JUDGMENT is a major theme in American/western horro. In part cause of Christian influence but also because of the unsettled debt the west has with like all of the world.
Japan pushed out a lot of Pysch horror. Pushing people to their limits and then watching the evil come out cause imperialism pushed so many men to vile shit and society saw it and is not pretending it didn’t. And it’s the pretending that’s the problem.
They won’t face the fact that they did it so it’s haunting the collective conscience
