The third and final war between the Marathas and East India Company was fought in 1817-18, where-in Peshwa Baji Rao’s forces were defeated by Hastings. The main battles were fought at Khadki and Bhima Koregaon, near Pune.

Now you know why Bhima Koregaon so angers Brahmins.

My story today is however not about Khadki and China Koregaon, but about Jyotirao Phule, who was born in 1827, in Satara. The family subsequently moved to Pune.

So you have the first subaltern voice after the Brahmins were dethroned and Phule couldn’t be shutdown by the UCs.
His best known works is collection of essays collected in book form called “Gulamgiri.” The essays are in old Marathi but translations into Hindi & English are available.

I am going 2 give U 5 slides that extracted out the foreword that Phule wrote to his essays in Gulamgiri.
As a kid, I asked many people who the “Rakshasas” of Ramayan were. Always was fobbed off with wishy-ashy answers.

Jyotirao Phule is the first author I read who had a credible answer to my question that answers my natural curiosity.

The Rakshasas & Shudras are one & same.
Those 5 slides have phenomenal insights into what happened during the so called Aryan migration & why the UC now are denial.

The fact is the present day Adivasis show that the original war is from far from over. Upper caste hatred of the original people of this land survives.
The Rakshasas of Ramayan have become Maoists. Those who question the contrived history thrown at us are #UrbanNaxals.

Remember, who would hear Phule’s voice calling out his story today but for the British.

Very important to listen to rare voices from our suppressed history.
