Where have you been until now? All you ‘don’t close the schools’ brigade? Where were you @DailyMailUK @Telegraph and your little group of men and women when cuts were being made to almost all services that support children in this country? (1)
Especially as those cuts have impacted the most on the children from the poorest areas/those with mental health issues/those with disabilities, those children who you now claim to be ‘fighting for.’ Where has your activism been until now? (2)
Research by children’s charities have found -
A financial crisis in child protection support services - 29% cut in government funding for children’s departments during a period of rising child poverty. (3)
Whilst demand for children’s services has risen, child protection enquires increased by 139% between 2008/9 and 2018/19. The funding for these services was cut, Early Intervention Grants by almost £600 million since 2013, funding for youth services in England/Wales by 70%.(4)
Education which is top of your priorities apparently - the Institute for Fiscal Studies found real term budget spending cuts on the total spending per pupil had fallen by 8%. (5)
Oh and child mental health? Between 2010 and 2015, spending on children’s mental health services fell by nearly £50m – more than six per cent in real terms.
If you truly are worried about children, especially those in need, perhaps let us know what you’re going to do to help. (7)
(6) was just sweaty rants, I’ve let it go! ;)
