THREAD: Those of you around since my start here (Nov 23rd my first login) remember that I signed up to explain why a video of Michael Yeadon had been flagged on various platforms, primarily for people without “immunobackground”.
At the time, I thought he’s just good-old-fashioned wrong, from testing accuracy to “50% immunity pre-pandemic”. We’ve also had cordial disagreement over his EMA petition to halt the Pfizer vaccine trials. https://twitter.com/BallouxFrancois/status/1334795708503822338?s=20
I tried to stress-test ideas in the flagged video and appeal to anyone who stumbled over the threads to put me right if I had got it wrong. Many threads are still there if anyone is interested, happy to discuss
 whatever. https://twitter.com/andrew_croxford/status/1331722210323673088?s=20
But if you publish inaccuracies with a large platform (which he undoubtedly has across the media), the details of which shape behaviour, it seems important to highlight potential consequences for public health. https://twitter.com/andrew_croxford/status/1330882997575421953?s=20
Today, some people seem more mixed up than a rum & coke, out picketing bloody hospitals after dining out on bad info from multiple dubious sources. A recent example that many of you have seen. https://twitter.com/mbklee_/status/1344795588039208961?s=20
But wait... how would YOU act if you genuinely believed it was all hype, SAGE overstated the risk, your positive test was likely false, you can’t live as normal and maybe already lost a great deal, all for (what you believe to be) lies?
.

Maybe something like that?
During editing of the video (published Nov.19th, so filmed in
October?) I had many clips that didn’t make the thread.

Some of them seemed wrong ‘at that time’, like the false positives and high levels of pre-existing immunity.

This next one, however, is wrong ‘right now’.
Dr. Yeadon’s proposal - the virus has already swept across the country and there is ‘nobody left’ in London for another significant rise in cases in London. Hope that's fair.

Listen to the clip carefully and we will analyse the claim

So today, January 3rd 2021 - this is a testable hypothesis.

Had he been right, what would we have observed:
Lower case numbers.
Fewer in hospital.
All the ‘dry tinder’ gone.

This doesn’t represent what is unfolding in the capital. Not even close. https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1345459896335085572?s=20
London is experiencing rises in hospitalisations, many of whom end up on ventilators, just like in March and April. We know the inevitable outcome of these.

London is experiencing rising cases (if looking at total cases or stratified on type of test). We know the outcome of these also. More in hospital. More pressure on the NHS. More trauma & loss of life.

These rises despite tough restrictions.

There was no herd immunity.
There is still no herd immunity.
This is not what herd immunity looks like.
They are not false positives.
Most of you are at risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2.
Most of you are at risk of passing it on.

I’ve come to realize that I was on my own giving Dr. Yeadon the benefit of the doubt. Many who I've come to respect immensely for their efforts in the pandemic seem convinced otherwise. Perhaps I should reconsider my position here.
We had a brief exchange in which he emphasised that he’s a private citizen campaigning for answers. Seemed reasonable, I’m not a mind-reader, wasn’t making any judgement calls & am slow to assign malice.

But it's not the intent, rather the *content*, that matters here.
As a final thought: Irrespective of motive, this idea can lull people into a false sense of security in a densely populated city with little immunity to a highly contagious virus.

Please respect my wishes in how you share any of this. https://twitter.com/andrew_croxford/status/1333427733779648512?s=20
And a big thank you to everyone working in the NHS. I am genuinely in awe of your courage and efforts as we enter into this most difficult phase of the pandemic.

I support you! #NHS
