1/5 In my carb eating days, I would never have had straight lines like this. I dreaded each finger prick test because my numbers were never normal. 5.8 mmol/L (105 mg/DL) was a dream number that I only saw on the image on the box of my glucometer, but never on my own meter.
2/5 It was frustrating to try matching carbs with insulin, which I now know is a losing battle. Like Tom chasing Jerry (the cartoon), I was forever chasing my blood sugars with more & more insulin and yo-yoing all day long, feeling so disheartened and disappointed with myself.
3/5 The blame was always on me at the diabetes clinic. Both the diabetes consultant and diabetes specialist nurse would tell me I had to do "more" - but I had already been doing everything I could, desperately trying to achieve better control:
4/5 I had stopped eating out & ordering take-aways, I was cleverly adjusting my pump settings for better control, cooking every meal from scratch and pricking my fingers over 8 times a day! The nurse would tell me, "You have to be more pro-active in your diabetes management," and
5/5 I not only dreaded visiting the clinic, but have avoided using the word "pro-active" as it brings back memories of feeling belittled, incapable, incompetent.

If only I knew back then that the only way to have normal bg was to eliminate carbs!

It really is that simple.
