My @OddboxLDN arrived last night. Mangoes, passion fruit, avocados... and all of it would have gone to landfill! No packaging either except this box. So... #vegpledge and meals. I'm thinking...

1. Butternut red Thai chilli (vegan)
2. French onion soup (veggie)
3. BBQ jackfruit burgers (veggie)
4. This unpronounceable @BBCFood cabbage recipe which requires *finding someone who sells free range bacon and sausages*...

For the sausages and bacon I'm going with @BlythburghPork bought from @WildMeatCompany. I dont usually like eating pork because pigs are so clever but I read through the @ciwf guidelines and feel really happy about the way these pigs are raised.

In fact I'm grateful there are farmers out there who are this dedicated and make it possible for me to make better choices. I wanted to know more about how/ where the pigs are slaughtered though, how the land is rotated and what happens with all the pig manure...

I also looked at @TheDorsetMeatCo but couldn't trace my purchase back to a specific farm via their website. The more I know about the specific people and farms who make my food, the better - and I really do want all the gory details. Right down to what happens with the manure

Which brings me to my final point. I stopped trying to be veggie not because I'm bad at balancing my amino acids but because I work @Rothamsted. Watching broadbalk through flood/ drought I've realised how important manure is for #soilhealth (with vs. without in summer last year)
I'm coming to the conclusion that farms which combine genuinely free range livestock + crops make longterm ecological sense. And I'm grateful there are dedicated people/ companies out there practicing what I as a scientist can only preach and giving me the option to choose
