/n In front of me as I see it...are two pandemic stages...fiction and non fiction...as a retired engineering practitioner I see theatrics of drama, distraction & mystery - the other the logic of physics, transparency and common sense...
/n professional ethics for engineers, architects and interior designers demand first we must uphold the safety and health of those occupying the buildings we design and operate...
/n we don’t have the luxury of time to debate the conflicts in terminology within or between fields...this is life and death...we owe it to the public to speak in their language...
/pathogens in water or food respectively known by laypeople as waterborne, food borne...
/ the practice of engineering healthy environments concerns itself with the quality of air that is distributed to and between people in the same spaces or connected spaces...
/ in the interstitial air are particles...airborne particles...airborne particles hosting a pathogen...an airborne pathogen...
/ we know how to control the vector of airflows transporting airborne particles and we know how to condition it ... that is to decontaminate, deodorize and (de)humidify the air.
/from the words of one...can the virus travel One mile? We’re talking airport scale environments...in no airport in the world is an airborne particle going to make it one mile ...20 to 40 ft maybe. Ten miles? It’s a disingenuous statement.
/ from the same person on travel time. A day, month or year? At a nominal 20fpm velocity and 40 ft between return air grills is two minutes...maybe turbulence and adhesion kicks a slug of contaminated air past the first but it’s picked up at the second intake... four minutes ...
/its getting embarrassing watching health science professionals willing to die on their linguistic swords while humanity suffers...
/the headlines to the layperson should read: no social distance is safe; wear proper masks properly; personal and building hygiene is not a substitute for air hygiene - all are important.
/the details should be explained and demonstrated to the public by every building engineer, industrial hygienist and every HCW administering a test or vaccine ...
When I was in ICU for respiratory failure...I didn’t give a rats ass about droplets or fomite or aerosols...I was only concerned about my loved ones and dying...that’s what we need to focus on...full stop!
